Kpop News

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

Hey guys, so today we are trying something new, which is K-pop News. Mainly because tons of things have happened in the last week and half pretty much, so today since I missed Tuesday post time (I'm so sorry about that) I wanted to make it up to you by making more fun content since I have been doing a lot of informational content. I have more funny and fun content coming in the coming weeks as an fyi. Anyways the K-pop was really rocked as of recently and I want to talk about the good, bad, ugly, and the unexplained today for all of you.

Black Swan

I wanted to start with something positive before we crash land into all of the madness of the rest of the news. On October 16, a five member girl group called Black Swan debut with the song Tonight. Yes that is group that is the main photo of the post today, and as you can tell another non-Asian K-pop idol debuted into the Korean music industry. This is very exciting and I can't wait to see what is to come from these beautiful ladies.

Felix and the They/Them Sam Smith Livestream

During the week, Felix from the boy group Stray Kids did a livestream where he talked about Sam Smith and their music. Felix spoke Korean the entire time during the stream and he mis-gendered the singer as he/him instead of they/them, because Sam Smith came out of nonbinary quite a while ago. Obviously this did not go down well, because this the K-pop community and we blow absolutely everything out of proportion. People started telling Felix to harm himself and harassed him quite a lot. There are people that are not completely delusional and kindly let Felix know about his mistake, but there is a big problem that arose as native speakers and people learning Korean brought up. In the language, they are not able to do the add they/them pronouns in Korean and it's not able to be done. I am not saying that people shouldn't be called by their preferred pronouns, but we should be understanding that not all languages are as flexible as English with the they/them pronouns. And some of y'all need to chill out more ⛄❄.

Jeongyeon Hiatus from Eyes Wide Open Album Release

Yes, you read that right another Twice member is taking a hiatus from the group's promotions. Jeongyeon announced that she will not be taking part in the group's comeback happening on October 26. This rather short news, but this showing how JYP is overworking their most popular group at the moment.

Irene Accused of Treating Her Staff Badly By a Stylist

So this is news that everyone and mother within the K-pop community knows about, because it is the biggest news to come out as of recently. So, a stylist, that worked within the industry for fifteen years, said she had a bad experience with Irene from Red Velvet. The stylist said that Irene yelled at her for 20 minutes while working with her. Honestly the best thing is to remain neutral to this until more information comes out about what happened, but the stylist's behavior is really suspicious to me personally. This is not me taking Irene's side, but this woman's behavior is throwing me off. First, Irene apologized privately to her before she brought this on to the Internet. Secondly, there is speculation that the other likes from staff on the original statement were faked. Thirdly, if this woman had the recording like she said of Irene yelling, it is legally allowed that she can drop it. But instead this stylist is just teasing like comeback, girl drop like a mixtape on Soundcloud. Fourthly, the stylist only worked with Irene for ONE DAY, only 24 hours. Fifthly, we weren't there so we don't know what made Irene angry. Lastly, 20 minutes soundly like an exaggeration, because if she was yelling for that long don't you think someone else would have heard it (ex: another member, manager, literally anyone). I am not defending Irene or 'victim blaming' (y'all are using the word victim blaming incorrectly), I am purely speculating about what happened and is this real.

So that's all that I have for today, I am sorry about this being late; my teachers wanted to make all of us stress cry before the grade period ended. I am sorry about that, and I hope all of you a beautiful and wonderful day. And let me know if you this to become a regular thing for every Saturday. 💕
