How I Made My Way Into The K-Pop World

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

So I found of recent some people actually read my stuff, which is pretty amazing to think about. I started this as a way to vent about whatever I want, and it slowly turned into a place of ranting about the K-pop industry along with some informational posts on occasion just because. But I never actually told many people how I found my way into K-pop. So, today I am going to talk about my small amount of exposure to the digging into the music that soon lead to an obsession that has taken over my life. yay!

So, I started listening to K-pop in the spring of 2016. I mainly listened to pop music, mainly Little Mix, Ariana Grande, and Fifth Harmony. So everything I listened was mostly generic pop diva music nothing much else. But most of my elementary and middle school years were spent watching FBE and the React channels on Youtube, so my first exposure to K-pop outside of Gangnam Style by PSY. But I thought that it was nothing more than an average reaction video that tons of people make constantly. But it wasn't until the spring of 2016, where I actually decided to look at music videos myself.

So my first videos that watched on my own were f(x), 4Minute, Girl's Generation, BLACKPINK, Red Velvet, and Twice. The first ever video was Girl's Generation's "I GOT A BOY", and ever since was I have been so into the colors, the dancing, and overall sound of the music. I loved it from that video onwards, from "I GOT A BOY" to "The Boys" to "Lion Heart". After digging into Girl's Generation, I moved onto f(x) then Red Velvet, then I fell into a rabbit hole of 4Minute, BLACKPINK, and Twice.

So this was the begin of adventures in the K-pop fandom, and I have grown to become more a part of the fandom, and this blog has given me a place to talk more and more about a thing that I love so much.
