Hey guys,
Oh my god! I am so excited to talk about this, as one of the early BLINKs this is something that has highly awaited BLACKPINK releases. I watched this when it dropped, but I had a test this morning so I had to sleep so I could take my test and pass. So now you all are going to her all of my thoughts on the "Lovesick Girls" music video and the other tracks on the FULL ALBUM. Oh My God, I can't am able to write that. Okay so am rambling at this point, so let's get into review.
Music Video and Title Track
This was a genuinely good music video, honestly all BLACKPINK music videos are good. But this one was really good, because it was not glamour shots after glamour shots like most BLACKPINK music videos. There was a bit of a story, not music videos need to have a story or in-depth message in it, but I wanted the girls to go deeper in their artistry than normally and this was what I needed from them.
This song didn't follow the typical BLACKPINK formula that has been used since Boombayah, yeah I know since debut. I really think TEDDY had to actually try because Jisoo and Jennie were working on it with him so he couldn't be lazy with it. Rose's vocals really hit differently in this song and I am in love with it. This was Rose's era y'all, you can't change my mind about it. But the shot with Jisoo pulling her hood down then running kills me every time. We got rapper Jennie back in the business, we really missed her a lot but she's here. Lisa's verse was all I needed and more. The little noises in the background in the chorus were really cute. The line "We were born to be alone", literally my life in a nutshell.
Styling was on point, the photo at the top of this post has my absolute favorite Rose outfit. Honestly they all look insanely good in that scene. Jisoo in the field of flowers, I think they were blue bonnets and holding the cracked hourglass, she looked absolute gorgeous in that shot. Jennie laying on top of the car hood in the beginning of the video, that is one of my favorite Jennie solo scenes. Lisa gave me Harley Quinn vibes during her rap verse with that mallet and hitting the car.
Other Tracks On the Album
I didn't talk about "How You Like That" when it came out, mainly because I was lazy and I didn't feel like writing. But I summary my thoughts on it here. I thought it was a solid BLACKPINK song. But it fits the typical song formula that they have used since debut, and it was "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" part four. The video was mostly glamour shots, but I really enjoyed the bridge to ending part of the song. I talked about this in my Ice Cream post: Click here . Pretty Savage is pretty good song, but it is pretty generic music. I don't know, but I sounds like something that any artist could have put out and not really a BLACKPINK song. It sounds like a basic pop wannabe hip hop song that somehow found it's way to the Hot 100. So, with Bet You Wanna, this song was pretty good and kinda of a bop. I didn't like the Cardi feature at first but I vibe with it now. Crazy For You is my personally my favorite side track on the album, I am a Kick It supremacist, and this song low-key came for Kick It. It was new and fresh. Love to Hate Me is another pretty solid song for the girls. Finally You Never Know is another amazing album closing ballad.
Final Verdict:
So songs were good and very BLACKPINK, but it also allowed for the girls to add diversity that was needed in their discography. Lovesick is probably going to be in my top four title tracks from them, because it brought something new to the table and it was desperately necessary. Honestly I was a little disappointed that we only got eight songs on the album, but we actually got an album. Plus the songs are on the shorter side, most songs being 2:45 to 3:00 minutes each. Hopeful my fears of a long drought from them doesn't come true, and lets pray for another album very soon.
