So last night, BLACKPINK released their highly awaited pre-release single collaboration with Selena Gomez entitled 'Ice Cream'. This song was had a very cute concept that was something that was extremely new to not only BLACKPINK, but YG Entertainment entirely. Knowing the typical to BLACKPINK brand and concept, this was completely new. BLACKPINK leaned as far as they could into the pop sound and cuter/colorful music video. As the name of the song says, this song was refreshing and sweet; the music was covered in things that related to ice cream and ice cream trucks. This son, 'thank god' was not written by TEDDY, so the girls could finally break away even a little from the lazy formula that has been used for almost every song since 'Boombayah'. Yes, since debut. The writing from the song was done by quite a few people, and one of the writers was indeed Ms. Ariana Grande.
I personally thought the song had to grow on me, but when it did it was everything that I wanted and needed this summer. I actually participated a lot with streaming this released. But some didn't like the lyrical content of the song, because it is quite different from the usual BLACKPINK song, not in concept but in the number of numerous sexual statements that were made in the song. Which is something that is not expected of the girls. Some saying that it was too much and inappropriate for younger audiences. Honest thoughts, they are grown women that can sing about whatever the heck they would like and it's not their purpose to make kid-friendly things so you don't have to monitor what your child is watching. It's same thing that happened with the WAP song and video, y'all just have a problem with women freely expressing their sexuality. I love this song, and as I am writing this the full 24 hour mark has not passed yet so we will how well this performs. Another major thing that both BLINKS and antis can agree on is that the line distribution was extremely bad for their only being five people on the track, Jisoo and Rose was cheated in both the lines and screen time departments.
Final verdict: Ice Cream is really go summer song that had the diversity that was missing in BLACKPINK's discography and some of y'all misogyny needs to be checked at the door.
