So over the last week, a Nigerian music artist that goes by the name of 'Lyta' released a music video entitled "Hold Me Down". This has caused quite a stir within the K-pop community because this video copied many scenes from popular boy groups, GOT7 and BTS.
These scenes stirred things up over K-pop twitter, and mostly with GOT7 fans called iGOT7's. The "Hold Me Down" music video looks very much similar to GOT7's music video "Just Right" that was released on July 12, 2015. As you can tell through the images the shots were the same down to the placement of the props on the desk in the comparison images to the unique scenes like the zebra and sitting on the makeup cushion in the desk drawer. The set designer even copied the building from in the BTS "Boy With Luv" music video, and they just changed the color. So after the backlash hit from K-pop fans, Lyta was forced into disabling comments and like and dislike counter on his music video.
When the news of the music video looking a lot like GOT7's original video hit the Twitter scene, lots of people had some things to say about the matter:
@fanatic_got7_. : If the director and artist respected GOT7 and their work as artists, they wouldn't have Plagiarism their music video "JUST RIGHT". GOT7 as a worldwide group and their music work must be respected Take Legal Action @jypnation @GOT7Official #GOT7 #JustRight
@seuniesbirdies: JYPE PLEASE READ. an artist named Lyta (@official_lyta ) put out a music video for his song Hold Me Down. the song is an EXACT copy of Got7’s - Just Right music video. this is plagiarism at its best. please address this situation, this is absolutely ridiculous !
@jimzize1: Asian pple don’t know how we roll in Nigeria plagiarism or not nothing u guys can do to the boy and I still don’t know y Asian pple are so pained about this if I’m Got7 and artist like Lyta did this i Won’t be mean as this cause only a gud work can be plagiarized. cry babies
@JCheryong: Like.. Its just weird to me how quick Korean articles were written about the plagiarism issue but they were silent on got7's mistreatment and acted like they knew nun about the truck.
@WisestarrANB: Who is Got7, i don't think anyone knows him until Lyta did that thing, y'all should be praising lyta, prostrating to him for that. He is not to be blamed if not for his Video Director that gives these ones publicity they don't deserve
I personally think that instead of hiding from the K-pop fandom, Lyta should apologize along with the set designers and director for directly ripping off another artist that works hard at their craft. And the people saying that the K-pop fans are acting crazy and that plagiarism isn't that big of deal, need to understand that is serious crime to commit. But everyone should remain respectful during this time.
