BTS Group

I don’t really have any real reason to have to explain the history and discography of BTS, mainly because they have so much popularity to the point everyone knows everything about them. But I feel as if I need to forever include them on my blog, because they were my first boy group to be obsessed with. When I first got into K-pop, I almost exclusively listened to girl groups and they were my first boy group. So I have come to the conclusion that I must include at least some boy groups, so everyone doesn’t think that I hate boy groups. And who is better to start with than the number in demand guy group at the moment.

In 2013 BIGHIT Entertainment debuted the seven member boy group with the name BTS. BTS’ full group name is Bangtan Sonyeondan, and is written as 방탄소년단 in Korean. The fandom name for their supporters is called the A.R.M.Y., which is an acronym for Adorable Representative MC for Youth; the fandom’s official color is silver-gray. BTS does have an official lightstick called the ARMY Bomb and it is shown off to the side. The seven members of the group are RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

Members:

RM: RM’s original stage name from debut was Rap Monster but changed it to RM in late 2017. RM’s birth name is Kim Namjoon and he was born on September 12, 1994. He is not the oldest member of the group, but he is the leader and also the main rapper. Namjoon is considered a genius and has an IQ of 148, and has a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from Global Cyber University. He has also been called the God of Destruction, mainly because he is rather clumsy and has the ability to easily break things. It's kind of funny 🤣! RM is the only member that is fluent in English and he learned from watching Friends (trash show), but it’s pretty impressive.

Jin: Jin was born on December 4, 1992 and his full name is Kim Seok Jin, making Jin the oldest member of BTS. Jin is a vocalist and a visual of the group, and his nickname from the fandom is Worldwide Handsome. He used to be known as Eomma Jin and Pink Princess, but he says that he doesn't like these names and we don’t use them anymore within the fandom; but they are a part of history so I am still included in this post. Jin is also considered the fake maknae, because he is the oldest member but acts like the youngest.

Suga: Suga, known as Min Yoongi, was born on March 9, 1993. Yoongi is the lead rapper of the group, and he was an underground rapper in Daegu with the name Gloss. He has a really good mixtape called Augst D that he wrote and produced. Suga has been composing music since he was thirteen years old. He’s members call him “grandpa” because he sleeps alot. Lastly, Suga is often called a cat or has nicknames that are referenced to cats a lot .

J-Hope: J-Hope or Jung Hoseok or Sunshine was born on February 18, 1994. Hoseok is the main dancer, sub-vocalist, and sub-rapper. Pre-debut J-hope was a part of a street dance crew called NEURON and he originally auditioned for JYP before coming to BigHit. If you are a newer fan J-Hope is really energetic and usually has a bowl cut. Hoseok’s most common nicknames are Sunshine, Hobi, and Hope.

Jimin: Park Jimin was born on October 13, 1995 in Busan. Jimin went to high school with another member, V. Jimin was the last member to join BTS. Jimin is my favorite member of the maknae line of the group. Jimin is the main dancer and the lead vocalist of the group. Jimin is very often teased by the other members for his height mainly because he is the shortest member. I mean he is the shortest but only by about 0.4 centimeters, so practically nothing. JImin’s nicknames are Mochi, ChimChim, and Manggea-ddeok (a type of rice cake).

V: Kim Taehyung whose stage name is V was born on December 30, 1995. Taehyung is the lead dancer, vocalist, and visual of BTS. V is also known as TaeTae, Blank Tae and CGV currently, but like Jin, he has an ‘extinct’ nickname which is 4D alien. Just like Jin, he doesn’t like this nickname and he has matured, so this isn’t used anymore but it is a part of history so I must include it. According to Namjoon, Taehyung is the second best English speaker in BTS.

Jungkook: Lastly, the maknae of BTS is Jungkook or Jeon Jeong-guk. Jungkook was born on September 2, 1997 in Busan. Jungkook is the main vocalist, lead dancer, sub-rapper, center, and maknae, so he’s the all rounder of the group. Jungkook is known as the Golden Maknae because he is pretty much able to do anything and everything while being the youngest. Jungkook is also called Kookie and also is represented by a bunny quite a lot in the fandom🐰.

Awards and Accomplishments:

As of the writing of this post, BTS has exceeded the Korean music market. They have now become an international phenomenon, and have dominated the American music charts in a way that no other other Korean artist was able to to do before. BTS has won four American Music Awards in the Favorite Social Artist (2018 and 2019), Favorite Duo or Group Pop/Rock (2019), and Tour of the Year (2019) category. They also won three awards at the Billboard Music Awards in the Top Social Artist (2017, 2018, and 2019) and Top Duo/Group (2019). BTS became the first K-pop group to perform at the AMAs in 2017, the boys performed at the Billboards Music Awards in 2018, finally they preformed along side Lil Nas X at the 2019 Grammy Awards. In a way BTS has paved a way for other K-pop groups to be better accepted in the American market. As of August 2020, BTS has been the first K-pop group to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

My Thoughts on BTS:

Now I am going to talk about my personal thoughts and feeling on BTS. BTS was the first boy groups that I started listening to after my weird opposition to boy group ended in the summer of 2016, I was only into girl groups for the first three to four months of listening to K-pop. I loved BTS albums from Skool Luv Affair to You Never Walk Alone but for some reason I randomly feel out of love with BTS when the Love Yourself serie came out for some reason. I think it was the concept was not working for me with FAKE LOVE or IDOL, especially IDOL; I mean DNA was okay. I got back into their music when Boy With Luv, and I could actually watch the music video without feeling dizzy, like I felt when watching the IDOL video. So my opinion on BTS has changed on the group since on my Unpopular K-pop Opinions post I made a couple years ago. Like Jackie Aina said, "I'm allowed to change my mind. Just like you're allowed to change the way you do your brows."
