Red White & Royal Blue

Over Spring Holiday, as known as Good Friday, I decided spend the entire day reading the book, Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. This is one of my favorite books I have read this year so far. So after reading the Harry Potter series, I needed a more feel good YA romance novel to recover from Half-blood and Deathly Hallows.

Summary:

So this novel is the story of a son of the first female president of the United States, Alex Claremont Diaz, and his enemies-to-friends-to-lovers relationship with Prince Henry of Wales.

My Thoughts:

When it comes to the characters, I love almost all of the main characters. Alex is one of the funniest characters I have had the pleasure of reading about, because he was perfect to me at least. Henry is so adorable, he is such a Hufflepuff boy and so soft. Alex and Henry are the clear cut opposites attract kind of relationship, but not as cliché and cheesy as you would expect. Nora is the original badass honestly, she is the daughter of the vice president. She is an icon and the moment; Nora is good friend, a human super computer, and person that keeps it completely real with Alex when he needs it. Finally, there is June, who is Alex's older sister that a gossip magazine obsessed, honest, and his major part of Alex's support system.

There are so many things I loved about this book, my favorite parts of the book are the text conversations and emails that are adding in between the chapters; one of my personal favorite emails is last email in exchange between Alex and Henry at the end of chapter eleven. Their relationship is super sweet, and they are so extra and this the main reason about why they suck at having a secret relationship. This book has so many moments that made me squee quite a lot, especially chapter four.

Though there are so many things that I love about the story, there are some things that found not as good or unnecessary. Example number one: Liam; Liam is the most useless character in the entire story. I can't stand the fact that someone that was this unnecessary was even in the story to begin with. Example number two: the entire Luna situation; again this was one of the most useless things that was in this book, if and when you read it, you will understand what I am saying.

I honestly would recommend this book heavily to anyone that enjoys YA novels or fan fiction, because honestly this felt like a fan fiction and I loved every second of it. I was drawn to this book, because I was tired of hetero-white romance novels and those stories are pretty much copy-and-paste, thus becoming rather boring. So if you like to read Red White & Royal Blue, you can buy it on Amazon here.
